Fresh figs range in color from green to yellow, brown, purple or black. They are extremely perishable and should be eaten soon after purchase. Ripe figs should be soft to the touch. Handle with care as they bruise easily. Store in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days on a plate lined with paper towel. Slice as a topping or eat out-of-hand. Serve at room temperature with the stems trimmed off. Try sliced in half with a creamy cheese!
